When I found out I was going to South Africa for the Fifa World Cup, it was as if I had won the lottery. I enjoy soccer so much, and traveling is another passion of mine. To be able to incorporate both of them, especially to a city that I had never been to before, was truly a once in a lifetime experience for me. I have so many memories from it, and I think I will remember them even when I am old and feeble and remember little else.
The first memorable moment was when the gates opened at the stadium. I have seen many opening ceremonies on television, but actually being there and witnessing it in person is something that cannot be accurately described. Read the rest of this entry »

One of the great perks of being a huge soccer fan is the fact that the sport is beloved around the world, and high profile tournaments are held in some fantastic countries. Visiting the best soccer tournaments is like a seasoned traveler’s dream. When it comes to the big tournaments, such as the World Cup, it is especially advantageous to visit these countries as the area goes all out for those coming in from around the world. Host cities and countries want to put their best foot forward and leave a positive lasting impression.
When I first learned that the 2010 World Cup was going to be in South Africa, I was not sure how successful the tournament would be. The country had never hosted a major international competition, and I must admit that I was a bit skeptical. Read the rest of this entry »
